Speaker 1: (00:00)
Hey, welcome back. So glad you were here. today. We are going to be dealing with some more time management, something. I absolutely love helping all my clients with something that I think is one of the keys to leading a successful life, to understanding your brain and getting an alignment in your life is just another one of those tools that is such a great teacher. So today we are going to dig into tiny practice. I call to-do list. I’m sure you’ve all heard a to-do list, right? You probably even have one. You might even have five or six scribbled away on pieces of paper, or you might keep multiple ones on your own, and maybe you only keep them for certain areas of your life, right? You don’t keep them for all areas of your life. And the first thing I wanna bring up to you is the importance of having one single to do list.
Speaker 1: (00:55)
Just one where you dump your, the entire contents of everything that needs to be done from your brain. Not just the stuff for work, not just the stuff for kids, not just the grocery store list. I mean, every single thing that needs to be done in your life. And I want you to dump that entire list into something on your phone. Okay? I know some of you are gonna have resistance to this, cuz you’re gonna be like, but Catherine, I love writing it down. I, the way it feels, you know, writing it out and I’m gonna tell you fine, you can do it twice. Okay? If you love the way it feels, writing it out, go ahead. You can make that list. But I also want you to put it in your phone and the phone is the master list. Why your phone not a piece of paper.
Speaker 1: (01:38)
Just sit with it for a moment with me is the piece of paper always on you. Yes or no. No, no. Right. Is your phone always on you? Yes. that is this simple reason. We need to be able to add things to our to-do list. Every time they come up in our brain, otherwise we are using energy in our brain to try to remember these lists of things to do. And an action actually causes this kind of like low level anxiety or worry in us. That is such a waste of our energy. instead of you trying to use your brain for something it’s not very good at, right. The brain is not really great at keeping a list of like 50 items that you need to remember to do. Just thinking about that gives me anxiety okay. So it’s really important that you dump your brain in terms of all the, to do items and you put them in your phone now in apple phones, there’s a great app in there.
Speaker 1: (02:41)
It comes with the phone it’s called reminder. It’s great. You can categorize things. You can prioritize flags, set, set, timers, great app. And if you don’t have an apple phone, the one that I also use is TLE do it’s a free app, very similar functioning. It’s absolutely fantastic. So I suggest you’d use one of those. And what this is going to do is it’s going to help you start to build a trust with this new list that you’re having, that you don’t have to try to remember everything that it’s on the list. And if it’s on the list, if you put it on the list, it’s as good as done. Think about that thought with me for a moment. If I, if I take it outta my brain and I put something I need to do on the list and I sit there and think about, when am I gonna do this or categorize it or prioritize it.
Speaker 1: (03:31)
And I know it’s gonna get done, right? I don’t need to worry about it anymore. Isn’t that an amazing gosh, I just feel so much a better thinking about that right now, but that’s also because I trust myself to get things done on my list. And some of you might be like, uh, I don’t have that same joy that you have Catherine right now thinking about it’s on the list. You might be like, uh, I don’t know if I’m gonna look at it. I might try to avoid it. So part of this practice that I’m going to be sure I with you today is it’s really all about learning. How to trust yourself, because to do lists are exactly that to do lists are in, when they’re in the highest alignment for you are all about you learning how to trust yourself, to follow through with the things you wanna do in your life.
Speaker 1: (04:19)
And often the things stopping you from following through. It’s not like, you know what it is, you know what you wanna do? You have it written down, right? You wanna, you know, let’s say you wanna make more money this year, right? So we start to say, well, what are the steps we need to do to make more money? And those steps might be, well, I need to get more clients and what do I need to get to need to do to get more clients? And the top thing that I teach people to get more clients is to expand your client pool. So you need to be spending time doing sales and getting visibility, spending more time. A lot of people do not spend enough time doing this. And it’s because they feel uncomfortable being visible or be uncomfortable. They’re uncomfortable, may sales or making offers.
Speaker 1: (05:03)
And so I work with people on learning, how to spend at least a third, if not 50% of their time in their business, when they’re first starting out, just doing these things and getting really comfortable doing them. And the good news is after you get comfortable doing them, it’s just like riding a bike. So it isn’t going to be as pain full or hard to do as it is right now. In fact, all it is for you right now is as an opportunity for expansion and growth. When you think of it that way, that’s pretty exciting. Right? And so from there, then we start to get detailed about that. What does it look like to have more sales and more visibility? What, what am I gonna be doing on a weekly daily basis? And how am I gonna add those in little bite size things to my to-do list.
Speaker 1: (05:51)
So you’re gonna have a big goal of making more money or maybe getting more clients. And then you could have all these subtasks in both of these, um, both in, uh, reminders and tutor do of all the things that need to get done. So what stops people from getting things done on their to-do list or stops people from even making this to-do list? This is interesting. A lot of times why we don’t make complete to list why we only have to-do lists for small amounts of things is because we’re too afraid to even write down what we need to do in order to get the big things we want in our lives. I’m gonna say that again, a lot of times, while your to-do list only has to do with your grocery store or things for your kids or things, you know, you can accomplish is because you’re, you are too afraid to write down the big things you want on your life.
Speaker 1: (06:43)
You’re too afraid to put it down because that means you’re gonna have to do it. It means it’s written out there. It’s not just in your head as some maybe. And so this is so often what I, I help clients with. I help them first dump their brain, dump their to-do list of all the things they want. And then they get stuck in drama there usually because there’s some things they want, but they’re, they don’t know how to do them. Their brain’s, you know, freaking out about what, how, what does that mean? What am I gonna do? Like, and, and it all has to do with emotion. It all has to do with fear and our feelings, our stories, our beliefs, around some of those things. And that’s what I help clients with. I help them understand their thoughts and they’re limiting beliefs and they’re and processing these emotions that come up with these items.
Speaker 1: (07:38)
So we can release that stuff off. We can start to change their thoughts and we can, I can help them take actions on the items and their to-do list without having to be in fear of that stuff. And sometimes they are still in fear a little bit when they do it, sometimes they are in discomfort. But when you start to write down, write it out and you start to see, these are the things I need to do to get what I want in my life. You know? And I’ve been running from them in a way I’ve been hiding from them by not writing them out. I’ve only been writing things on my to-do list that I can accomplish that are maybe short term that are easy instead of the big stuff, the big stuff that secretly you are afraid to write down because you’re afraid of having to deal with the fear, the anxiety, whatever thoughts, beliefs you have about it.
Speaker 1: (08:28)
And again, that’s no problem, right? That is what I, I help people with. I help them with that part of the to-do list process. It’s easy hypothetically to write a to-do list, but is it easy to write a to-do list of every desire you want in your life this year? I found it’s not . I found it’s, it’s not for my clients. And even I struggle with this from time to time, I have big goals and admitting that I really want them in writing it down is like, wow, that’s a huge thing. Am I capable of that? Self doubt can come in. Imposter syndrome, come in, can come in. A lack of confidence comes in any of these things, you know, that I am in fear of, or in scarcity of come up. And I’m like, ah, yes. Get to remind myself. This is, this is where I need to grow this year.
Speaker 1: (09:17)
This is an opportunity for me to expand. And this is being, I’m calling this into my life and I want these things in my life. I want to have these things. So what do you wanna have in your life that you are too afraid to write down? You’re too afraid to put a stake in the ground and start art and making an actual game plan on how to get there, how to get those things into your life. And if you’re telling me I’m not writing them down because I have too many ideas or I’m confused, or I need more clarification, I’m gonna, I’m gonna call a little BS on that. I’m gonna say the reason you’re not writing it down is actually because, cause of a fear of a story of a belief you have that is wanting to be worked through it is wanting to be solved and healed.
Speaker 1: (10:08)
So this is a great opportunity for you just sitting with the discomfort of writing out your entire to-do list and, and seeing it feels really uncomfortable in your body. And why is it uncomfortable? It’s only through going through that process where you will get the clarity. You will get out of confusion. You will start to feel confident. You will get out of that imposter syndrome by writing it all out, you will start to figure out like I only have a finite amount. So I have to pick between these 10 things I’m really passionate about. But if we, you know, it’s through writing it down, that we get what we want in our life. We get really clear on what we want and what we’re asking for. We keep it up in our head and we just keep it swirling around up there. It can stay up there forever and it might never manifest into the world.
Speaker 1: (10:57)
And some of you might be saying, Hey, Catherine, I have written down the, some of the scary stuff on my to-do list and I’m not doing it. This is where we get out of trust with our to-do list. We put things down on there that are big, that, uh, we might have fears around. And then we don’t process the fears. We don’t process the, the lack of confidence or the imposter syndrome or the scarcity. And so of course, we’re not gonna do those items. Like they feel horrible to us. so if you are, if you are, if you’re like Catherine, I do write down my entire to-do list. I’m just not doing it. You still have to do the step of, of sitting with each item and being like, how do I feel about doing this? What comes up when I think about it? Am I energized? Am I motivated? Am I inspired? Or am I avoiding it? Am I looking for reasons not to do it right? Am I numbing myself or
Speaker 2: (11:53)
Distracting myself or always finding something else to do? Other than that, the reason you’re not getting it done is because of that emotion there. And that’s why having a coach or someone else you can talk through who can help you process those emotions and help you work through them and expand right? And let them flow. So they’re no longer are blocking you from getting the items done. This is how you learn how to trust your to-do list and trust that you’re just gonna get it done because one you’ve written it down, right? It’s not stuck up in your head anymore. So you don’t have to worry about forgetting it instead. You’re allowing your brain to do the thing it does best, which is solve problems, not become a computer to remember tons of random things. Instead, we’re gonna let it think about one thing at a time and help solve it creatively for you.
Speaker 2: (12:41)
Yay. Right. Using the brain and for its highest purpose. And then once those items on your to-do list, you know, you’re gonna get ’em done. And if you get stuck on anything, no problem, because you know how to process your emotions around it. You know how to process your thoughts and beliefs and shift them around it to get you to a place where you will feel comfortable enough doing those items on the, to do list. Ah, isn’t that such a relief, knowing that you have that tool, you have that skillset set out of processing emotions and understanding your thoughts and beliefs and how to change them will help you be able to get done anything you want on your to-do list. It’s so wonderful. And if you’re sitting here at all in shame or judgment of how you haven’t followed through on your to-do list in the past, have compassion and kindness for yourself take, and just remember that you’re always doing the best you can on any given day, love yourself, because if you’re shaming yourself about not doing your to-do list, that’s just gonna make you not do it even more in the future, right.
Speaker 2: (13:48)
It’s completely unhelpful. It’s really not motivating at a long term level. So we always have to just recognize, and of ourselves that we’re doing the best that we can in any given moment. And how do we wanna show up differently next time? How do we wanna do it differently? Hmm. Gosh, the power we have, right. It’s absolutely amazing. I really, really hope you enjoy this practice. It’s just like next level to-do list. It’s a way of seeing and dumping out everything in your brain to get you in total alignment with your life and to help you have that growth expansion success you want to have this year. So enjoy this practice and I will see you next week. Bye.
